Charlie's Thoughts

I think the Americans in this book are very cruel to the Navajos. The Navajos were just trying to live a peaceful life and then the Mexicans take slaves. When the Navajos try to take their people back, the Mexicans tell the Americans that they are raiding them. Now the Navajos have to obey the Americans' laws and do whatever they say. They should have the same freedoms as the Americans.
The Navajos are much more athletic and even smarter than the whites as shown in the boot camp which gives more reason that they should have more rights. I think they are given a great opportunity in the Marines, and when the whites used to think that their language was useless, but it ended up the most important code language they had. The whites were less cruel to them as they got older in high school and at the age where they went to the marines.
I think it is very interesting how Ned interacted with the chief of the island. It surprises me how many Navajos are in the marines, and how little go on each island.
5/10/19- I think this boo ended well. I was surprised that Georgia Boy survived getting shot in the neck, but I'm glad he did. I think there could have been more details about what happened when he got home.
