Plot

Exposition: Kii Yazhi was from the Navajo clan of the mud clan. He got sent to a boarding school so he
could learn English. Also, he had to leave his family so he could understand the american culture and then
when he is older he can get a job and earn money.

Inciting Incident: The Inciting Incident of the story is when Kii Yazhi gets to the boarding school and
meets the other Navajo children and then gets told by the white man that they will forget all of their
Navajo background and never speak Navajo again.

The rising action: is in 1941 the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor. This
causes the US to declare war. Kii Yazhi asks his parents if he can join the Marines, but they say he has
to wait a year. A year passes and his family delivers on their promise. They give him a special ceremony
to grant him safety while he is deployed. After this he goes to Fort Wingate for basic training. He and the
other Navajos that train with him excel in the exercises. They are so good, they surpass the white men
training with them. After this the other he and the other Navajos are trained to be code talkers. They are
told not to reveal their code to anyone.

Climax: They are then shipped out to the Pacific Theater of war (PTW)
where the narrator takes part in massive battles on islands like Okinawa. He also witnesses major events
the the flag being raised over Iwo Jima.
Falling Action: He finally returns home after the US drop the atomic bombs on
Hiroshima and Nagasaki. When he returns home he enters a bar to get a Coke. He is then tossed out of
the bar despite being a marine in uniform. I guess that people still feel the same way about them even when
he fought for them.

Resolution; The resolution is when Ned teaches the Navajos about their important language and culture at
nd that no matter what you are told the Navajos are important.
